Learning as a product of motivation in the primary schools

Abstract

My research question is to analyse the behaviour of the students by focusing on motivation to encourage and engage them. Teachers have the responsibility to impact their students’ behaviour to enrich a better educational experience. We have to instil motivation in our students in order to have a satisfying educational experience instead of focusing only on their assessments. (Hinchliffe, 2011). I shall try to shed more light on this area by using qualitative research. An investigation will be carried out, with year 5 students, to show how motivation can help in classroom management. It is verified that educators give more attention to the area of behaviour interventions than to other aspects. Students with disruptive behaviour become very frustrating for their classroom, and extrinsic rewards might help. The most controversial issues in behaviour management have been the use of rewards to motivate and teach students to follow classroom rules and routines and to complete academic assignments. Students are easily motivated in doing activities which they think they have the necessary competences (Boekaerts, 1997). With reference to various literature, I will be able to conduct this case study. By participating in focus groups and interviews I will collect the data required to analyze the importance of motivation in learning. My main aim is to research if motivation helps the students to challenge themselves more and help teachers in classroom management. I shall analyze the results gained from the research methods used and propose new methods and ideas about the area being studied.
