Abstract: It is widely acknowledged that among the major functions of the financial system the generation of an efficient allocation of resources, and ensuring the operation of a developed payments system to support economic growth in an environment of stable prices, are central. It is with these objectives in mind that during the 28 years of its existence, the Central Bank of Mauritius has played a decisive role in shaping the new strategic course of Mauritius's banking sector.
