Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the perception of radiographers working in a general hospital regarding working in teams as compared to their previous system of daily rotation. In order to explore this subject a cross sectional quantitative approach was used to gather data from radiographers (n=76, 83% response rate). The instrument contained closed ended questions and was divided into eight sections, demographics, leadership, communication, satisfaction, conflict, empowerment and the implementation of team working. The population studied although of different age, background and educational level shared a common experience which is the transition to teams. The study main conclusions are that radiographers are still struggling to adapt to team working, this was demonstrated by the results from the various sections of the instrument which demonstrated that team members interpersonal relationship lacks respect, feedback for the work done by the members from the leader, lack of opportunity to share their views, meetings are minimal, and the members experience conflict. Moreover, the process of communication within the team and management is not active and radiographers are not being provided with the required direction to assist the team to perform better and to enhance their cohesiveness. Nonetheless, from the results obtained from the empowerment section of the instrument, it indicates that although radiographers are willing to continue studying and to empower themselves with new skills and knowledge, the opportunities for them to acquire such skills and knowledge are limited and its stopping any further professional development desired by the team members. Recommendations put forward as a result of the study's conclusions include the improvement in interpersonal relationship between members, which can be improved by the organisation of formal meetings in which everyone can have the opportunity to air his views, team leaders should be provided with training to assist them in performing their job and together with management to identify areas in which radiographers can develop and take control.
