Abstract

The article offers a synopsis of the vast contribution of the Church Fathers on the sacrament of the Eucharist. The author commences his presentation by offering the reflections on the Eucharist by the earliest Fathers (the Apostolic Fathers), followed by the Apologetic Fathers, the pioneers of systematic theology, the Alexandrian School, the North African contribution (Tertullian and Cyprian), Athanasius, the Cappadocians and Cyril of Jerusalem, followed by John Chrysostom and the Golden Age of the Fathers in the West (Ambrose and Augustine). The golden thread of the article is that lex orandi, lex credenda becomes lex vivendi in every authentic celebration of the Eucharist.
