Abstract: Today, more and more tourists are in search of travelling for various reasons. Travel and tourism are on a constant increase with new destinations emerging for tourists to experience. This dissertation will deal with the Maltese population and studies will be made regarding their habits of travelling, which destination is mostly visited and other important factors concerning Maltese travel. This study will deal with the locals and will discuss what makes a person travel to different destinations that is the 'pull' and 'push' factors of a destination but also the constraints of travel. The locals will be given the chance to express what their major threats are when it comes to traveling and what holds them back from taking more trips per year. The introduction of low cost carriers in the past decade will be tackled as a new trend for the Maltese market. Locals will be asked whether they have in fact been using such cheap air transportation. Gozo, Malta's sister island will be mentioned as a cheap way to enjoy a short weekend break holiday in exchange for outbound travel.
