This paper presents an overview of developments in the life of the village of Siggiewi - a typical Maltese village - during the Knights' period with special emphasis on how the villagers' life is affected. It places these developments in the context of the principal events that moulded the islands' history- the arrival of the Order, the Great Siege, visitations of plague, improved economic conditions - and how these left their mark and were reflected in village life.en_GB
