Purpose: Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) is being more requested for examinations relating to liver lesions. Such lesions are a more common finding lately due to less invasive techniques that utilise ionising radiation. This technique is considered as the first line imaging modality for FLLs in Europe. Nevertheless, such procedure is not being carried out in the general state hospital of Malta. Objectives or Research Questions: The mam outline of this study entails in obtaining reasons why this technique is not performed in the general state hospital. Furthermore, assessments related to equipment, cost effectiveness, protocol knowledge and diagnosis by senior radiologists and respective trainees will be evaluated. Methodology: A qualitative, non-experimental approach was utilised. The methodology revolved around a semi-structured interview where senior radiologists and radiologist trainees provided views, advantages, drawbacks and possible suggestions to why such technique is not being carried out. Ethical considerations and limitations for the study were obtained and found out respectively. Results and conclusions: Interviewees pointed out that they have lack of expertise in the area with respect to contrast administration and technique protocols. Moreover, CT and MRI seem to have been substituting this technique due to their various sensitivities and specificities to hepatic lesions. Furthermore, the US units are already equipped for contrast modes, and the transducers required are of optimal standard for CEUS. Ultimately, the introduction of such technique is possible, however the contrast agent required is not available locally at the moment.en_GB
