Abstract: This dissertation aims to examine an important aspect in the life of the Maltese society. It is a wellknown fact the in Malta fireworks constitute a part of our daily life. For many individuals it is not just a part of their daily lives but it reflects their emotions and their satisfaction. The art of pyrotechnics was introduced in Malta by the Order of St. John back in the 1600 and it evolved continuously through the years. Notwithstanding the beauty of this art, it is of high risk and sometimes accidents happen which will costs lives of individuals and affect third parties. This lead to an action by the authorities and insurance was involved in such an action. This study will give an insight about insuring against fireworks accidents in Malta. This dissertation will offer a comprehensive insight what does the Maltese insurance market currently offers. Accidents do not only include when a fireworks factory blows up but also accidents that happen during the letting off and transportation of fireworks. This study will highlight what are the laws and regulations under the Maltese Law presented under Chapter 33 Ordinance Act of the Laws of Malta and Subsidiary Legislation 33.03. The study would also examine a report carried by a Board of Inquiry commissioned by the Maltese Government as well as environmental reports. It will also examine court cases and accident statistics as to understand better what type of accidents and court cases one would encounter. In the last decade the number of fireworks accident increased significantly, some of which affected third parties. This study will also provide an analysis of the measures taken in place by insurers, the Malta pyrotechnic association and the government for better regulation of the manufacturing of fireworks to minimize as much as possible the accidents and to insure the accidents.
