The Institute of Aerospace Technologies (IAT) was established by the Council of the University of Malta on 14 November 2014. The scope of the Institute is to exploit the strong track record and international reputation that the University has developed in niche areas of aeronautics since the early 2000 and to further extend activity to the broader scope of aerospace. The Institute aims to meet these objectives through activities which focus on different areas, including: - Avionics - Flight Operations - Flight Simulation - Air Traffic Management - Autonomous Aerial Vehicles - Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul - Small Aircraft Design - Aerospace Systems The Institute aims to operate on three activity axes, namely the teaching, research, and national matters. In teaching, the Institute aims to attract new students to the University through the delivery of academic study units. In research, the Institute aims to strengthen its position as a valued player in the field of aeronautics and transport within the European Research Area. This is achieved through formal collaboration with international industry partners, research centres and universities. The research activities of the Institute are detailed in the Research section. In national matters, the Institute aims to play a key role as a high technology, research and innovation platform by working with national stakeholders to promote and contribute actively to national capacities in the aerospace sector. This includes close cooperation with the national aviation cluster (established through an initiative of Malta Enterprise) and the National Aerospace Centre.
