dc.description.abstractThe study considers the influence of the Maltese language on English reading by a sample of Year 4 rural children. The writer presents an expose of the acquisition of the phonological system. This is followed by a consideration of Language Acquisition Learning theories together with the development of reading skills. After discussing R.P. (Received Pronunciation) and Maltese, the study looks at predicted phonological differences. A description of the study leads on to a presentation of the writer's findings and conclusions.en_GB
