In today’s dynamic environment and constant talent for war, training has become a key component to the success or demise of any organisation. Most companies have realised that to maintain their position in the market and eventually gain competitive advantage, an organisation needs to invest wisely in human capital. Only by doing so, can an organisation stand the test of time. Countless examples in the business world show that only organisations that are flexible, adaptive and offer continuous training and development opportunities will excel. Training is a costly process and therefore must be designed diligently, always keeping in mind the objectives, the outcome desired and the best return on investment. With this in mind this study sets out to analyse the relationship between training design and learning effectiveness within an organisation across five different markets. For the purpose of this research a development management programme being delivered to current and future line managers within the organisation was chosen as a case study. This research covers an extensive literature review relating to learning organisations, the training process and the different models of training design. The researcher based the analysis and recommendations on both primary and secondary data collected for the purpose of this study. The recommendations and conclusion highlight the effect of design on effectiveness and how the organisation under review, could further improve the learning effectiveness through minor redesigns of the development programme.en_GB
