| Abstract: | This study addresses the potential effects of nightlife tourism on crime rates by taking Paceville as the main case study. The relationship between tourism and crime is taken under consideration, where patterns of tourism-related crime emerge. These patterns uncover two façades of the relationship; the tourist being a victim of crime, and the tourist being the perpetrator. With the use of both qualitative and quantitative forms of research – interviews and surveys – a thorough analysis revealed some instances of the visitor being a victim, but mainly being the perpetrator of the majority of criminal acts. The main profile of the tourist-perpetrator was also identified; students visiting Malta to learn English. |
