Setting up a gymnastics facility in Malta : a feasibility study

Abstract

Purpose: The objective of the study is to determine the feasibility of setting up a gymnastics facility. For this purpose, this study explains various aspects of sports and gymnastics, forms the nature of the gymnastics facility and estimates and appraises the potential of such gymnastics facility.

Design:

A questionnaire was conducted with a random sample of 400 parents and young adults to establish the potential demand and fees for a gymnastics facility. In addition fieldTwork consisting of semiTstructured interviews, discussions, telephone calls and eTmail correspondence were carried out with various individuals, ranging from authorities, directors of a gymnastics facility and various businesses and service providers.

Findings:

It resulted that in setting up a gymnastics facility one must meet various requirements set out by various departments and authorities. In addition, one must carry out any procedures and settle any contributions requested. There are also various schemes in place for organizations and individuals alike to benefit from. There is a demand for such gymnastics facility; in addition, the parkour section will attract a relatively new market, which is not presently suitably catered for. The gymnastics facility will leave an impact on the society and the economy as a whole.

Conclusions:

The gymnastics facility is deemed to be feasible. This facility will provide a number of gymnastics and parkour classes for all levels, ages and capabilities. The facility is equipped with the best equipment where individuals may train in a safe and fun environment, which is fundamental aspect of any gymnastics facility.

The study is expected to provide an insight into the process and requirements of setting up gymnastics facility, and the introduction of the first indoor parkour gym in Malta.
