Comparing Maltese magazines, 'Antenna' and 'Gwida' (together with other Maltese magazines found in Sunday newspapers) with foreign magazines 'Cosmopolitan' and 'Women and home' in regards to portrayal of women

Abstract

The main aim of my dissertation was to determine whether the Maltese magazines analyzed being the most diffused in the island are similar to the foreign magazines analyzed which are also highly popular magazines within the foreign spectrum. The study was focused on the comparing of the occurrences of variables tested for a period of three months, from October 2012 till December 2012. I gathered the Data needed from magazines through content analysis. The results mainly suggested that in some aspects the Maltese magazines analyzed are similar to the foreign magazines while in some other aspects they are highly different. But overall the whole analysis of the study determines that there are more differences than similarities in terms of structure and in regards to portrayal of women.
