Exploring Fawwara and its surroundings : environmental educational walks

Abstract

This study explores the environmental education potential of the site il- Fawwara, limits of Siġġiewi and its surroundings. The study identifies the issues related to outdoor and environmental education as well as the use of community resources to promote environmental education. The dissertation highlights the development of an educational pack containing five environmental educational walks. Each walk consists in a series of stops that provide participants with opportunities to observe and learn about several aspects of environmental interest. A resource pack for anyone taking a group of individuals for a walk was also developed. This pack provides environmental educational opportunities for school children and visitors to the region. The effectiveness of the walks and the resource pack was informally evaluated through an evaluation questionnaire that was distributed to eight individuals with experience in outdoor and environmental education in either a formal, informal or non-formal educational setting.
