Abstract: The year 476 A.D. is commonly accepted by all historians as the end of the Western Roman empire. A hundred years before it happened, Rome was an immense power spread like an eagle over Europe, Africa and Asia Minor. What caused its downfall? What made it a prey to the barbaric invasions? Gorg Peresso, the author of this series, illuminates the panorama of the empire's end with a mix of authoritative writings from that period and contemporary historians. The result is more than a documentaed account, but a story full of action, brutality and intrigue of a divided empire.
Description: This program discusses two important bishops: Gregory of Nazianzus, also known as Gregory the Theologian or Gregory Nazianzen, was a 4th-century Archbishop of Constantinople, and theologician. He is widely considered the most accomplished rhetorical stylist of the patristic age and also Aurelius Ambrosius, better known in English as Saint Ambrose , was a bishop of Milan who became one of the most influential ecclesiastical figures of the 4th century. He was consular prefect of Liguria and Emilia, headquartered in Milan, before being made bishop of Milan by popular acclamation in 374.
