Abstract: The following dissertation attempts to analyse the consistency, or lack thereof, of the European Union's foreign policy toward the question of Palestinian statehood. Emphasis is places on the increasing relevance of Member States' domestic interests and policies as well as the complex dynamics of the transatlantic relations between Europe and the United States. As a case study, the dissertation focuses on the issue of Palestinian statehood. Accordingly, it investigates the European efforts in the project of Palestinian state-building, EU-Hamas relations, and, last but not least, the EU's stance toward Abbas' application for Palestinian statehood at the United Nations General Assembly.
