Abstract: The first chapter offers an introductory picture about the first years of Enrico Mizzi in politics. This chapter is important because it gives the necessary background information on Enrico Mizzi, why politics and his love for Malta were part of his life and the difficulties he experienced. This chapter deals with the chronology of important events that led Enrico Mizzi to the foundation of the Partito Democratico Nazionalista. The second chapter is about the granting of self government and the 1921 election in which Mizzi contested with the Partito Democratico Nazionalista. This chapter also gives an insight about the parties contesting the election, the results and the main issues of the legislature. The third chapter analyses the 1924 election and the difficulties of that legislature while also discussing the important fusion between the Unione Politica Maltese and the Partito Democratico Nazionalista that brought all the nationalists under one party. Unbelievably, such differences between these parties have contributed towards Maltese political development.
