Abstract: This study analyses students' attainment in the SEC PE examinations during the years 2010 and 2011 categorised by gender, school type and year of examination. The main aim of this dissertation is to observe similarities and differences in students' attainment in different sections of this examination namely, the Coursework project, the Practical performance and the Written component. The data containing the marks for the Practical performance, Coursework project (Paper I) and the Written component (Paper II) for the years 2010 and 2011 was provided by MATSEC. The data set also included the students' gender and the school they attended. The sample comprised all candidates who sat for the SEC PE examinations. The Chi square test was used to assess whether the proportions of students opting for Paper A and B varied significantly between male and female participants and between students attending different school types. The Pearson correlation test was used to assess the relationship between the marks attained in Paper I and Paper II. The One-Way ANOVA test was used to assess whether the SEC PE attainment scores in Paper I and Paper II differed significantly between male and female participants and between students attending different school types. Furthermore, the marks attained by students were also compared between the years 2010 and 2011.
