dc.description.abstractThe, Technological Revolution in the latter half of this century, much like the Industrial Revolution of the last, has brought about so much upheaval in concepts of social understanding that once again a differently evolved ‘homo-faber’ has emerged. Basically, schooled and educated, it can no longer be assumed for instance, that after graduating a person should go into educational retirement but many opt for returning to periodical retraining. Others may feel the necessity for making a fresh attempt at certification; if; for any reason, formal education had left them unfulfilled. The concept of lifelong learning is also helping to dissipate the idea that a work routine should preclude employees from enriching their personal development and methods are being researched to enable workers to take time-off from their place of work to attend courses. ln England the government has set up a body to advise on "adult" and "continuing" education, known as the 1977 Advisory Council with a brief to find a "modus Vivendi" for alternating between work and study. Hence, whereas it has hitherto been accepted that formal schooling should come to an end, it is being taken more for granted that education should not stop with it. […]en_GB
