A glossary of terms related to sailing

Abstract

This bilingual glossary presents a list of sailing terms in English and their equivalents in Maltese. A realistic insight of the terms used on a daily basis in conversation is given by the experts in the field. This often results in borrowing and importing terms from English into Maltese. This glossary aims to explore the sailing terms that already exists in Maltese; to provide a realistic picture of what terms are used on a daily basis in the field, in other words whether it is the existing terms in Maltese or other imported terms; and finally to propose alternatives where necessary and appropriate.
