Erasmus+: Driving academic synergies between Malta and Colombia

Jairo A. Escobar, Full Professor at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, participated in academic and research activities at the University of Malta during the week of September 22–26, 2025. The collaboration between the two universities has been strengthening in recent years, facilitated by a series of successful Erasmus+ International Credit Mobilities.

Together with Prof. Inġ. Joseph Buhagiar, Prof. Inġ. Bertram Mallia, and Prof. Inġ. Maurice Grech, strategies were developed to continue strengthening collaboration in teaching, student mobility, and joint research projects. A plan has been structured to be implemented over the next two years focusing on biomaterials and materials for environmental applications.

Once again, Erasmus+ projects have made a substantial contribution to the consolidation of multipurpose international networks. The support and commitment of the entire administrative, academic, and technical staff of the Faculty of Engineering, particularly the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, made this a unique and highly fruitful experience.
