University's MRER Journal celebrates 20 years with landmark 856-page publication

The Malta Review of Educational Research (MRER), a fully refereed, open-access electronic journal, has reached a momentous anniversary, celebrating two decades since its inception as a crucial platform for educational scholarship.

This journey, led by founding and current editor Prof. Carmel Borg, recently culminated in the publication of an 856-page book, a comprehensive volume co-edited with Dr Charmaine Bonello.

The book was presented to the Rector Prof. Alfred J. Vella on 19 November 2025. This landmark book, endorsed by twenty-four academics, local and international, is a testament to MRER's influence. Their collective contributions not only honour the journal's rich legacy but also underscore its unwavering commitment to dialogue, debate, and innovation in educational research, policy, and practice.

MRER has evolved from an ambitious concept into a respected and influential platform that has significantly shaped conversations around local and global education. As it looks ahead, the journal is renewed in its mission: to foster critical scholarship, amplify diverse voices, and inspire new generations of researchers dedicated to questioning, reimagining, and transforming the future of education.
