30th anniversary of Annual Company Law Conference

The Annual Company Law Conference of 2025 was held on Wednesday 3 December 2025. This popular annual event was planned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Companies Act 1995.  As usual, the conference was organised by Dr David Fabri on behalf of the Malta Law Academy, the academic arm of the Chamber of Advocates. The event was held at the Valletta Campus, was fully booked and remains one of the most important items on the Chamber's calendar.

Leading practitioners and academics addressed different aspects and set out different perspectives concerning Maltese Company Law and its development during the past thirty years, and how it may shape up for the future.  Many of the speakers form part of the Faculty of Law assisting in lecturing, supervision and examining. The speakers included the Registrar of Companies and the Official Receiver. A very interesting panel discussion moderated by Dr Ivan Vella, criticised certain provisions of the Act and proposed a number of useful amendments.

The President of the Chamber of Advocates, Dr Peter Fenech, delivered his traditional speech on the Chamber's policies, priorities and activities. Judge Dr Ian Spiteri Bailey, who heads the commercial section of the Civil Court, delivered the introductory talk, while former Judge Dr Toni Abela closed the proceedings.

Dr David Fabri, currently a Visiting Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Law and former Head of Department of Commercial Law, has been organising this conference for over twenty years.  He chairs the Malta Law Academy.  The next Annual Company Law Conference shall be held in November this year.
