MRER celebrates 20 years with book launch on its educational research legacy

On 30 January, the Aula Magna of the University of Malta’s Valletta Campus provided the setting for the launch of the MRER anniversary celebratory book – Building Knowledge, Inspiring Practice: The MRER at 20 – edited by Prof. Carmel Borg and Dr Charmaine Bonello.

The launch took those present on a guided journey through the different sections of the volume, weaving together scholarly insights and reflective testimonies. Contributors and invited speakers highlighted the themes that have shaped MRER over the years—rigour, critical engagement, inclusivity, and a sustained concern for the relationship between research, practice, and policy.

Personal accounts from contributors illustrated how MRER has served not only as a publication outlet but also as an enabling space for emerging and established researchers alike. These testimonies underscored the journal’s role in fostering scholarly confidence, encouraging dialogue across institutional and disciplinary boundaries, and nurturing research that remains attentive to local contexts while engaging with international debates.

In this sense, the launch was not merely a retrospective celebration, but a forward-looking moment, one that reaffirmed the journal’s ongoing relevance and its commitment to cultivating thoughtful, ethically grounded educational research.
