Prof. Peter Mayo's latest book, 'Southern' Europe and Beyond in the Mediterranean. Critical Essays in Adult Learning and Education, Brill, 2026, has just been released in its hardback, paperback and ebook versions. As its title suggests, it covers different aspects of Adult Learning and Education in the Mediterranean.
It provides chapters on both the ' Northern' and 'Southern' parts on the region, Northern and South being regarded as constructs. The book contains two chapters on Palestine tackling Learning under conditions of ' Settler Colonialism' seen from, in one chapter, a Gramscian perspective, and in another, co-authored with Palestinian scholar, Najwa Silwadi, a Freirean one.
The book also contains a Comparative Education chapter, co-authored with Paula Guimaraes from University of Lisbon and Emilio Lucio-Villegas from University of Seville, on Popular education in Italy, Portugal and Spain. The book contains a Preface by University of Rome Sociologist, Fiorenzo Parziale. It has been endorsed by Palestinian scholar, Nahla Abdo, Carleton University, Italian scholar, Paolo Federighi, University of Florence, and Elsy Wakil, Lebanese Adult educator from the Arab House for Adult Education and Development (AHAED), Beirut.
This is Prof. Peter Mayo's 28th book, only ten of which are edited.
