UM contributes to EARMA discussion on AI in research management

Earlier this year in March, Dr Elena Sultana, Research Project Manager at Research Support Services Directorate (RSSD), participated in an online session organised by the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA), in her capacity as a member of the BESTPRAC Initiative Taskforce and representative of the Maltese side within the ERA-Shuttle project consortium.

The session explored the use of AI-powered tools by Research Management and Administration (RMA) professionals, an area of increasing importance in strengthening how higher education institutions support and manage research at both national and European levels.

BESTPRAC, an established EARMA Thematic Group, provides a pan-European platform f or the exchange of best practices among research management staff across universities and research-performing organisations. Its core mission is to facilitate knowledge sharing and contribute to the continuous enhancement of standards in research management.

This active participation underscores the University of Malta’s commitment to digital transformation and international benchmarking. By integrating cutting-edge AI insights and cross-border expertise, UM ensures its research infrastructure remains competitive, relevant and aligned with the evolving standards of the European Research Area.
