New academic year, new voices – dive into issue 48 of THINK Magazine

A new academic year always brings fresh beginnings: new faces, new ideas, and new voices ready to be heard.

The quiet ones, after all, often have the most to say.

When we think of “voice,” we usually imagine sound shaped by our lungs and vocal cords. But having a voice is so much more. It’s about expressing thoughts, shaping meaning, and claiming a sense of belonging. What we do with our voice defines us, both individually and socially.

In Issue 48, THINK turns the spotlight on University of Malta researchers who are making space for hidden voices. Leading the way are children, not because they are silent, but because we often dismiss them as too young or inexperienced to be heard.

An exploration of how children’s literature shapes young minds, a feature about the conservation of the Argotti Nymphaeum will keep you locked in, an initiative by the UM Library called Art Connect helps students, staff and academics express themselves, and informative research about voice-saving tools, conducting large-scale research with children, producing a radio show about women who shaped history and translating thought to speech, among other related topics – will altogether make this an unforgettable read.

A voice is only as powerful as the ears willing to listen, which is why those at the edges of society remain the most overlooked. By bringing these stories forward, THINK invites us to begin this new year by paying closer attention to the voices that matter most.

Copies are available for free across campus, or else if you wish, you can browse through the latest edition online, at your convenience.
