Advancing Virtual Mobility: SEA-EU Staff Week held at Kiel University

Between 4 and 6 November 2025, Kiel University in Germany hosted a Staff Week dedicated to the expert group working on the SEA-EU Virtual Modules: Best Practice and Methodology for Sharing Modules in Hybrid Format. The event brought together academics and administrative staff from across the Alliance to exchange strategies for the development and delivery of virtual and hybrid teaching modules.

Building upon the success of a two-year pilot programme that shared Master-level marine science modules, the meeting aimed to streamline the process for lecturers and coordinators. Discussions focused on fostering new collaboration opportunities, including co-teaching and the joint delivery of Master’s level modules, to ensure a more integrated academic experience for students across the partner institutions.

The University of Malta (UM) was represented by Ms Fernanda Giraldo Guzman, Project Manager at the SEA-EU Office, who attended the meeting on behalf of the University, contributing to the administrative and coordination perspective of the discussions.

Over the three-day programme, participants engaged in sessions addressing digital e-learning platforms and the pedagogical methodologies required for effective hybrid teaching. The agenda also included testimonials from lecturers and students, as well as interactive workshops focused on the joint development of future modules.

The meeting concluded by reinforcing the SEA-EU Alliance’s commitment to innovative and flexible learning formats. Through the exchange of best practices and the discussion of shared challenges, partner universities continue to strengthen international virtual mobility opportunities for both students and staff.
