On Monday, 5 January 2026, the University of Malta’s Equity Office formally presented its 2024–2025 Annual Report to the Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella. The presentation was led by Ms Nadia Abdilla, Equity Coordinator, and Ms Martina Balagna, Equity Office Administrator, and was attended by Prof. Carmen Sammut, Pro-Rector for Student and Staff Affairs and Outreach.
The Annual Report provides a comprehensive overview of the Equity Office’s work throughout the past academic year, highlighting a wide range of strategic initiatives aimed at embedding the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) across the University. Central to these efforts is a strong focus on systemic and sustainable change, capacity-building, and fostering meaningful engagement within the University community.
Among the initiatives outlined in the report are targeted training programmes delivered to University staff, specialised faculty seminars, and several collaborative projects undertaken in partnership with other University offices, faculties, and external stakeholders. These initiatives collectively reflect the Office’s commitment to promoting inclusive practices, raising awareness, and strengthening institutional structures that support equity at all levels.
During the meeting, Ms Abdilla expressed her appreciation to the Rector and the Pro-Rector for their continued guidance and unwavering support, emphasising the importance of leadership commitment in advancing the University’s EDI agenda. The presentation also served as an opportunity to reflect on achievements, identify emerging challenges, and outline priorities for the coming academic year.
The Equity Office remains committed to working closely with the University community to further advance equity-driven policies and practices, ensuring that the University of Malta continues to be an inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment for the entire community.
