Shape2Gether: The Maltese Chapter

Four University of Malta students (C.A. Cuschieri, E. Nikolopoulou, L. Sajan and D. Degiorgio) took part in the Erasmus project Shape2Gether in October 2024.

Prof. P. Pace, Dr  M. Musumeci, and Prof. M. Mifsud were also present during the week-long project.

Shape2Gether is a European project that aims to encourage a deeper understanding of environmental issues using new technologies and methodologies. The group included students and professors from six universities in Europe. The participants visited Dwejra, Qala, as well as the “Cittadella” in Victoria during their three-day trip to Gozo.

The project members also spent two days at the University of Malta campus to work on different projects using various mediums to promote awareness of a number of environmental causes. The students also participated in a collaborative event with Nature Trust Malta, which involved cleaning up the beach at Ġnejna. Three turtles that were previously rescued by Nature Trust were returned to the sea after rehabilitation.

Apart from contributing to geoscientific tasks, the participants were also engaged in a rewarding cultural and historical journey. As a result of the shared experiences, the group members from various cultures have forged new friendships.
