The festive season officially began at the University of Malta yesterday with the inauguration of Christmas on Campus, held in the Quadrangle and attended by UM members and visitors who gathered to celebrate the start of the most awaited season of the year.
The event was presented by Joseph Chetcuti, who brought warmth and energy to the afternoon, welcoming the university community into a space filled with lights, decorations, and a joyful atmosphere. The Malta Police Force Band set the tone with a selection of cheerful musical pieces, adding a traditional and celebratory feel to the occasion.
Present for the inauguration were the UM Rector Prof. Alfred J. Vella, the Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza Mgr Martin Micallef, the Chairperson of The Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation Ms Sina Bugeja, UM Chaplain Rev. Patrick Magro, and Mr Daniele Formosa, representing KSU, who each delivered a short speech about the theme of this year’s edition: peace on earth.
One of the highlights of the event was a friendly pony that delighted attendees of all ages, alongside festive decorations that transformed the Quadrangle into a seasonal setting. Staff and students fully embraced the spirit by arriving in Christmas hats, jumpers and accessories, turning the campus into a lively display of colour and cheer.
Yesterday’s inauguration marks the beginning of a series of Christmas activities planned across campus. The University of Malta encourages the community to stay tuned for more events, surprises and seasonal moments to come in the days ahead.
