On the occasion of the European Week for Waste Reduction, the Office of the Pro-Rector for Strategic Planning and Sustainability is inviting the UM Community to donate clean, unwanted clothing items in order to give these items a new lease of life and sell them at heavily reduced prices. Donated clothes must be clean and in good condition. Clothes for all seasons may be brought along but no undergarments should be included.
Students from the Institute of Earth Systems and the Faculty of Education are joining forces to set up a thrift shop from where the UM Community would be able to purchase clothing items against a small donation. The money collected will be given to charity. The date and venue from where the thrift shop will operate, will be announced shortly.
If you are interested in donating clothes for the thrift shop, you can bring them to Campus by no later than 18 November.
Individuals who are willing to organise a collection box and store donated clothes for a few days are invited to contact Isabelle Warrington by email to discuss logistics.
One of the most impactful benefits of thrift shopping is its role in reducing waste. The fashion industry is a major contributor to landfill waste due to the disposal of unsold and unwanted clothing. Thrift shopping helps mitigate this issue by giving clothes a second life.
