Does it Matter? was the pun-filled title of an engaging public lecture recently held at the Lecture Theatre on the University of Malta’s Msida Campus, attracting the interest of numerous university students eager to explore the world of modern physics.
The lecture formed part of Cosmic Connections, a project funded by the National STEM Community Fund, which aims to bring STEAM subjects closer to local communities and inspire curiosity about science and innovation.
During the session, students were also introduced to opportunities available through CERN, including internship programmes and other pathways that support academic and professional development in scientific fields.
The lecture featured presentations by two CERN scientists, Milena Vujanovic and Lars Varming Joergensen, who shared insights into their work and highlighted the relevance of fundamental research in shaping our understanding of the universe.
This initiative was made possible through a collaborative effort between CERN, the University’s Institute of Space Sciences & Astronomy, the Astronomical Society of Malta, Esplora Interactive Science Centre, Kunsill Reġjonali Lvant, and the Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth, Research and Innovation within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation; demonstrating a shared commitment to promoting scientific engagement and learning within the community.
