Palazzo Falson Visit and Creative Activity for Team Building Activity

A team building event was held for the members of the Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education of the Faculty of Education on Wednesday 8 July 2026.

Ten academic and administrative members of the department were given a guided tour of Palazzo Falson, one of Mdina's oldest surviving medieval palaces.

Dating back to the 13th century, the palazzo is a remarkable example of Siculo-Norman architecture. Nowadays it is a historic house museum, preserving the legacy of Captain Olof Gollcher who was its former owner. During the tour, the building's rich history, its architectural significance were highlighted. Members also visited the library, which holds more than 4,500 books bequeathed by the late Captain Gollcher.

Following the tour of the Palazzo, a hands-on creative activity was held, during which members were invited to reflect on an artefact or feature of the palazzo that had struck them and use it as inspiration for a small painting.

The activity was received well, with lively exchanges of ideas, sketches, and paintings. Conversations also centred on the developmental, communicative, and play-based benefits of creative activities for children in early and primary education. The time spent working on the canvases was both relaxing, messy and enjoyable.

Overall, the historical tour and creative painting session provided a valuable opportunity for members of the department to spend time together outside the usual work environment.

The activities offered the opportunity for strengthened collegial relationships, encouraged collaborative learning, and reinforced the importance of taking time for experiences that nurture personal wellbeing, creativity, and professional connections.

Following the visit and painting session, members of the department concluded the event with a light lunch, providing a further opportunity to socialise and reflect on the day's experience.
