Applications are invited for a Master’s Student to work in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, on various projects in the area of Nuclear Fusion Technology. The student will join the supervisory team, which will be composed of the principal investigator Prof. Martin Muscat, who will act as the main supervisor, and Prof. Pierluigi Mollicone, who will act as the co-supervisor. The M.Sc. student will be involved in ‘The development of analysis techniques for the structural integrity assessment of Nuclear Fusion reactor components.’
1. Applicants must be in possession of an undergraduate degree (Second Class Division or higher) in Mechanical Engineering. Applicants must have covered the following topics in their undergraduate Degree: Mechanics of materials, Finite element analysis, Structural integrity and stress analysis.
2. The scholarship has a duration of one year. The selected candidate will be required to start his/her studies on a full-time basis from October 2025, and will be receiving a stipend of €1250 per month for one calendar year. The tuition fee for the first year of studies (up to €400) will be covered from the project. Further information on other applicable fees (if applicable) is available online.
3. In case of either extension or suspension of studies, the candidate shall not receive a stipend during the extension or suspension of studies period.
4. The Scholarship will be subject to the eligibility of the candidates to meet the entry requirements set out by the University of Malta and the conditions for enrolling in the Master of Science degree by research in Engineering. 5. International applicants are required to present an internationally recognised English Language proficiency Certificate at the required level. Further details are available online. International applicants are also advised to familiarise themselves with information available on the website of the International Office, particularly to the sections concerning visas and e-residence permit conditions and requirements. International candidates will need to provide assurance that they have the funds available to cover their stay in Malta. The stipend awarded for this scholarship is to be considered as a form of allowance and will not cover all the costs attached to studying and living in Malta.
6. The degree has an annual enrolment fee of €400 for local/EU/EEA applicants and total tuition fees of €13,400 for non-EU/non-EEA applicants.

Applications for courses to join the UM in October 2025 from non-EU nationals residing outside the EU and needing a visa to study in Malta must be submitted by the 1st July.
