Science in the City is back! Join us for "Past Forward" this September!

We are back!!! We are thrilled to announce that the Science in the City Festival is returning to Valletta this September! With over 30,000 yearly attendees, 600 volunteers, and collaborations with 90 organisations, this year's festival promises to be an unforgettable celebration of Art and Science under the chosen theme: "Past Forward!". We have an incredible lineup of events running up to and during the festival!

APS Community Hub: 26 August - 25 September

Visit the APS Hub in St. Julian's every Monday to meet the Science in the City team and participate in the "Community Canvas", where you can share your thoughts on science communication. We also have 5 events, which you can sign up for online.

Street Festival

Date: 26–27 September 2025
Time: 18:00–23:00
Venue: Triton Fountain

  • Triton Fountain and Biskuttin transformed with science and arts. We have artworks from Malta, Catalan and Romania, VR experiences, robots, experiments, visual literature, health checks, trees and much more. This is our MAIN event. See the flyer.

  • Take a virtual underwater journey with Heritage Malta's "Using Science to Unravel the Past", featuring 360-degree footage of shipwrecks scattered across Malta's seabed.

  • Print your own personalised Tritoni Fountain souvenir with the interactive 3D printing exhibit – plus get a rare guided tour into the fountain's pump room!

  • Experience the shocking reality of disposable nappies with "The Big Toilet Project" from UCL Plastic Waste Innovation Hub – visualise the 300,000 nappies discarded every minute globally and help develop solutions.

Performance Festival

  • Feel music in a whole new way with "Sub_Bar" by Francesco Spaggiari – a sensory performance where both deaf and hearing audiences experience sound through vibrations and sub-frequencies felt through the body. Duration: 45 minutes; ages 10+.

  • Shape the story yourself in "The Science Wheel" by Sean Briffa – a science theatre adventure where the audience's creative decisions determine the narrative's direction. Duration: 45 minutes; ages  6–10.

  • Experience ‘Light Fantastic!’ by John Hinton and Andre Xuereb – a high-energy musical comedy where science meets rock and roll! Watch a blend of catchy electronic music with mind-blowing light experiments. This fun, educational show takes you through live demonstrations that illuminate the science of light. Duration: 45 minutes; ages 11–14.
