Elevate your professional career: ERA Shuttle secondments

ERA SHUTTLE Secondments Now Open!

Overview

The University of Malta (UM) is pleased to announce an open call for secondment opportunities funded through the Horizon Europe ERA SHUTTLE project.

This initiative offers fully supported cross-sectoral secondments designed to accelerate professional growth and expand international research networks. Whether you aim to integrate advanced technologies into your work or create a lasting impact for your research, these secondments bridge academia and industry to enhance your career trajectory.

Who can apply?

In accordance with the UM Secondment SOP (ZRH-021-01), applications are open to UM personnel who meet all of the following requirements:

  • Council Appointment: You hold a Council appointment and are employed on a full-time basis.

  • Probation Completed: You have successfully completed your probationary period.

  • Tenure Requirement: You have been in full-time employment with UM for a minimum of six (6) months prior to your proposed secondment start date (or upon completion of your probationary period, whichever is later).

  • Managerial Approval: You obtain written approval from your Line Manager.

For academic members of staff, secondment must be concurrent with approved sabbatical leave

Secondment structure

To ensure long-term knowledge transfer, the secondment structure must include both an overseas placement phase and a mandatory return phase at UM.

The secondment duration must be between three (3) and twelve (12) months. Secondments may be divided into shorter assignments with one or more host institutions, provided the cumulative duration is at least three person-months.
