Colleagues from the University of Malta, Dr Charmaine Bonello, Dr Jonathan Borg and Ms Natalie Lombardi Calleja had the privilege to participate in the 33rd EECERA International Conference in Bratislava, where they shared research insights on two critical facets of early years education.
Dr Jonathan Borg and Dr Charmaine Bonello presented their joint study focused on “Inclusive Leadership in Maltese Childcare Centres.” Their research shed light on actionable strategies and the distinct challenges faced by childcare managers when striving for equity and inclusion within Malta’s early childhood sector.
Dr Charmaine Bonello and Ms Natalie Lombardi Calleja shared their collaborative work on “Early Childhood Educators’ Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence.” This presentation explored how educators in Malta are navigating the integration of AI into early years settings, discussing both the exciting opportunities that AI brings for child-centred and inclusive teaching, as well as the challenges encountered on the ground.
Both presentations fuel productive conversations about embracing innovative practices and fostering inclusive leadership within early childhood education. Their participation at EECERA reflects the Faculty of Education’s continuing commitment to research-driven improvements in practice and policy, always aiming to enhance the educational journeys of all children, starting from the earliest years.
