UM students among top performers honoured at Gala Sports Awards

The 21^st edition of the Gala Sports Awards was held on Sunday 7 December 2025, celebrating the achievements of Malta’s top athletes.

The Malta Olympic Committee evaluated the players’ results achieved at the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE), European Youth Olympic Festival, Commonwealth Youth Games, Youth Olympic Games, University Games (including FISU, NCAA and BUCS), European and World Championships, Commonwealth and Mediterranean Championships, as well as the Olympic Games.

Among the awardees were a number of UM students:

• Beppe Grillo – In Athletics, Relays
• Matthew Galea Soler – In Athletics, Relays
• Janet Richard – In Athletics, Relays
• Isaac Bonnici - In Athletics, Relays
• Kai Azzopardi – In Triathlon
• Ryan Muscat – In Triathlon
• Nirvana Micallef - In Swimming
• Tenishia Thornton – In Weightlifting
• Jessica Vella - In Karate
