Fifteen students from the Faculty of Education, joined an immersive Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), “Thinking About Peace Today, Shaping It Tomorrow!”, hosted by the University of Perugia (UniPG) in October 2026.
Led by UniPG, the BIP partnership united the University of Malta (UM), Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, University North, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Universidade Lusófona, and Universidad de Sevilla.
In Perugia, Dr Maria Brown, who coordinated this BIP for the UM, led the workshop, Asset-driven Community Education for Peace: A Participatory Approach. Students worked in teams to conceptualise and storyboard emancipatory peace-education initiatives, connecting local assets with collective agency. During the BIP, a total of 40 student participants and academics from respective universities combined online exchanges with experiences in Perugia, Assisi, and Castiglione del Lago.
The overall program explored peace education through memory, literature, responsible leadership, media, and community engagement across diverse European contexts.
The BIP format provided an accessible opportunity for Erasmus+ student mobility, particularly for students who face challenges participating in longer periods of mobility.
Special thanks go to the Dean, Manager and Office of the Faculty of Education, and the UM International Office for supporting participation in the programme.
Dr Maria Brown is senior lecturer within the Department of Arts, Open Communities & Adult Education.
