UM athlete to represent Malta at the 2026 FISU World University Championship

The Malta University Sport Association is proud to announce its participation in the FISU World University Championship Cross Country, which will take place in Cassino in March 2026.

This prestigious international championship brings together elite university athletes from across the world to compete at the highest level of student sport, celebrating endurance, performance excellence, and international unity through sport.

Representing MUSA and the University of Malta will be distance runner David Borg, one of Malta’s leading endurance athletes. Borg has consistently demonstrated commitment, discipline, and competitive strength both locally and internationally. His selection reflects MUSA’s confidence in his ability to perform strongly against some of the world’s top university competitors.

The championship course in Cassino will challenge athletes with demanding terrain designed to test tactical awareness, stamina, and mental resilience. Competing on this stage offers invaluable international exposure and further strengthens Malta’s presence within the global university sporting community.

MUSA would like to express its sincere appreciation to Visit Malta, the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, and the University of Malta for their continued support and commitment towards developing student athletes and promoting Maltese sport internationally. Their backing plays a crucial role in enabling participation at this elite level of competition.

A spokesperson for MUSA stated that participation in events of this calibre is central to the association’s mission of elevating university sport and providing student athletes with opportunities to compete internationally. Supporting athletes like David Borg highlights MUSA’s commitment to sporting development, high performance standards, and national representation.

MUSA remains dedicated to fostering excellence, sportsmanship, and leadership among University of Malta students through competitive sport. Participation in the 2026 World University Championship marks another important step in strengthening Malta’s footprint in international university athletics.
