UM Rocketry’s first-ever rocket launch

On 29 December 2025, Merill II was successfully launched, marking a historic milestone for UM Rocketry and Malta. After months of preparation, challenges, and late nights, the team’s efforts paid off with their first-ever rocket launch.

The launch was originally planned for October, but in an interview, Jake Mifsud, President of UM Rocketry, explained the reasons behind the delay. He spoke about the launch day and the precautions that were taken to ensure the mission’s success.

Jake also shared the team’s emotions as they watched Merill II lift off and later land in the water in one piece. He highlighted how important external support was in making the launch possible.

Looking ahead, he spoke about what lies ahead for UM Rocketry and the impact the project aims to have on STEAM education and interest in rocketry. He also emphasised that UM Rocketry welcomes students from all faculties and departments, encouraging broad participation across the UM.
