Festgħana fil-Lokal (fl-Università)

Event: Festgħana fil-Lokal (fl-Università)

Date: Friday 15 May 2025

Time: 12:30

Venue: Quadrangle, University of Malta Campus, Msida

At the heart of our University lies a shared appreciation for who we are: our language, our traditions, and the vibrant cultural identity that defines Malta.

Festgħana fil-Lokal invites us to come together in an atmosphere that reflects the warmth, hospitality, and spirit of the Maltese people; because the best of our culture is always enjoyed in good company.

Join us at the University of Malta’s Quadrangle for this special edition of Festgħana fil-Lokal, forming part of Festgħana, the national festival celebrating għana alongside other elements of Malta’s intangible cultural heritage recognised by UNESCO.

The event brings together leading għannejja and guitarists with those who appreciate this living tradition, offering a chance for both enthusiasts and newcomers to experience its continued relevance. As part of a series of gatherings held across Malta and Gozo in the lead-up to the main festival, this edition highlights the richness of Maltese culture in a uniquely University setting.

Entrance is free, and staff and students are warmly encouraged to attend.

Another highlight of this springtime event will be the vibrant rows of freshly arranged, seasonal flowers bursting with colour and fragrance, adorning the quadrangle throughout the day, not just during the event, for all to enjoy.

After the event (from 13:30 until 15:00), you will also have the opportunity to purchase them, with part of the proceeds going towards charity.

As the final lunchtime initiative organised by the Conferences & Events Unit in collaboration with Festivals Malta, and RIDT for this academic year, this edition of Festgħana fil-Lokal promises to be a fitting celebration, bringing the year to a close on a high note with vibrant Maltese flavours, music, and community spirit.

Festgħana fil-Lokal is being held with the support of the Ministry for Culture, Lands and Local Government, the Port Region.
