The Department of Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures, is hosting a movie night on Friday 23 October with a screening of In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar-wai, 2000).

Set in 1960s Hong Kong, the film follows two neighbours who discover that their spouses are having an affair, and what grows between them in the corridors, stairwells and noodle stalls of a crowded city. It is one of the most beautiful films of the last thirty years, and one best seen on a big screen with other people.

The screening starts at 17:30 in the Arts Lecture Theatre (ALT), Msida Campus. The film is in Cantonese with English subtitles and runs about 98 minutes. Light snacks and drinks will be provided. The evening is free and open to all UM students and staff.

This is the first of the department’s three movie nights this semester. Films from the Arabic and Near Eastern Studies sides will follow in December and January.
