Science in the City returns in 2026 with a programme that brings together two festivals united by one vision: to make science accessible, inclusive and inspiring through the power of creativity, research and engagement.
Under this year's theme, Research. Resist. Reimagine., the festival invites audiences to explore the world through curiosity, challenge assumptions, and imagine more sustainable, inclusive and resilient futures.
The celebrations begin with the Science in the City Street Festival on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September 2026, when Triton Square, Valletta, will become a vibrant hub of discovery. Families, young people and visitors of all ages can enjoy hands-on experiments, interactive workshops, installations, live demonstrations, performances and opportunities to meet researchers, artists and innovators working at the forefront of science and creativity.
The journey continues with the Science in the City Performance Festival on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November 2026, bringing a dedicated programme for schools and citizens where science meets the performing arts. Hosted across MICAS, St John's Co-Cathedral, and Offbeat Music Bar, the festival will present theatre, music, dance, stand-up comedy storytelling and immersive experiences inspired by research, innovation and the challenges shaping our future.
At the heart of Science in the City is a commitment to inclusion. The festival is designed to welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, creating opportunities for everyone to engage with science through experiences that are interactive, accessible and meaningful.
Together, the two festivals reflect a shared vision: to connect people with research, encourage critical thinking, celebrate creativity and demonstrate how science and the arts can help shape a better future. Schools are encouraged to save the dates, with booking information for the Performance Festival's school programme to be announced in the coming months.
