| COURSE OVERVIEW |
The course will provide you with a three-year programme of study in both the theory and practice of mental health nursing, allowing you to function as fully accredited members of the psychiatric multi-disciplinary team. The course has been developed to meet the nursing needs of the increasing population of people with mental health problems. As a graduate, you will be prepared to become dynamic, reflective and highly skilled professionals able to work as fully integrated members of the psychiatric multi-disciplinary team. Your main focus as a mental health nursing’s is to cultivate the responsibility that comes with a profession that centres around the well-being of people. We also offer opportunities for personal growth, interpersonal skills development and the foundations of evidence-based interventions to enable you to do so as self-directed practitioners. We also encourage you to participate in the Erasmus+ mobility programme for a multicultural and diverse learning experience.
Communication and Academic Skills Programme
The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

| LEARNING OUTCOMES |
The course will equip you with: • the knowledge and skills to work as a safe and competent psychiatric nurse. • the opportunities to work as an equal member of the multi-disciplinary psychiatric team. • the intellectual development to deal with the complexity of integrating the theoretical knowledge into clinical practice. • the personal skills needed to perform effectively and efficiently in diverse Mental health care settings. |

| CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AND ACCESS TO FURTHER STUDY |
On successful completion of the programme, you would be eligible for employment as a first level registered psychiatric nurse in Malta and in several other EU member states. Employment opportunities for this professional group are very good.

| COURSE INTENDED FOR |
As a psychiatric nurse, you must have a positive outlook on life, a genuine interest in people and a desire to work with some of the most vulnerable in society. By having a humanistic approach to problems solving and being able to balance this with the technical side of your training and academic development, this course would be the ideal programme of study for you. It is also essential that apart from being a good team worker with high levels of interpersonal skills, you need to be capable of undertaking complex clinical activities that combine the knowledge and skills of the other core psychiatric disciplines such as psychiatry and psychology, whilst engaging with a wide range of patients in a therapeutic and clinically focused way. |

| MOBILITY PERIOD |
Students who wish to participate in an ERASMUS exchange are encouraged to do so during the first semester of the third year of the course. |
