Health and safety

The Junior College (JC) is committed to provide an ordered and safe learning environment within the College Campus and during College activities. It is important that staff and students alike familiarise themselves with the College's evacuation plans, meeting points, other health and safety measures, and notification which are communicated from time to time.

The code of behaviour (COB) is not simply a do/not to do list but a practice of conduct that distinguishes a JC student. The COB when followed diligently helps ensure a safe environment. As a JC student you are encouraged to read it thoroughly and practice it in face-to-face interactions, on e-mails and other internet facilities - and to show respect for all persons and property both on College Campus and during College activities.

The indications in the accordion buttons below are taken from the staff guidelines for student welfare and wellbeing and the student guidelines for their own wellbeing.  You are encouraged to familiarise yourselves with said guidelines.

JC has also a set of guidelines to support severely distressed students and staff who may express suicidal intent. You are encouraged to read thoroughly these guidelines to familiarise yourself with the help and support available at JC.

You may report to the JC Health & Safety Officer, Mr Neville Paris, Room B309 (Block B, third floor), tel. +356 2590 7202 with any health and safety related matters.

  1. It is highly recommended that in each department, a number of members of staff follow a First-Aid course, which should be refreshed regularly to be able to provide the appropriate assistance should the need arise. This is particularly needed where practical sessions/activities are involved.
  2. In case of an emergency call 112. It is important that you also contact the Office of the Principal either by calling 2590 7244 or sending someone there. The Subject Coordinator needs to be informed too.
  3. Do not move the injured individual and if necessary the session needs to be dismissed, keeping only a handful of people to assist as you deem fit.
  4. AEDs available in the foyer and in the third floor may only be used by trained First-Aiders.
  5. Report in writing the accident (even if there is a near miss) to the Subject Coordinator and the Office of the Principal as required. The accident report form will help you provide the necessary details.
  1. If a spill has occurred it is important to contact immediately the staff responsible for the location and the Subject Coordinator of the department where the spill has occurred.
  2. The Subject Coordinator or an appointed delegate needs to contact the Health & Safety Officer and the Office of the Principal for advise.
  3. An incident spill report needs to be filled in and handed to the Health and Safety officer within five working days from the incident.
