| Abstract: | This research investigates the usage of social media within the Recruitment departments in Maltese companies residing in the services sector. The research studies the different social media platforms that are frequently used in the recruitment process and how are they impacting the recruitment and the screening process. Their impacts and drawbacks are recorded in the Research Analysis and Discussion Chapter by using the data gathered for both companies residing in the services sector in Malta as well as from students currently studying at the University of Malta. This data can be found in the Data Finding Chapter of this dissertation. The research indicates that companies are heavily using social media extensively especially in the recruitment process in various ways. They know that the advantages of this tool are by far more numerous than the disadvantage and companies are convinced that social media will eventually outweigh the traditional methods of the recruitment process. On the other hand, in order to find a job, students are not using social media that much and when they do they are using different social media platforms from what companies use. The study concludes that nowadays social media is widely used by the majority of the population. However, few people know how they should behave regarding such tools, especially if they are looking for a job. Therefore, Education can help to decrease the current disadvantages of this tool especially if companies feel that there will be a shift in the use of social media in the recruitment process more than traditional means of recruitment. |
