Abstract: Spiritual care aiso deals with awareness and relationships with self and any other being whether human, divine or imaginary. This sense of awareness and creation of meaningful relationships should help to alleviate suffering and pain, abandonment and loss by developing a faculty to cope. It is this increased sense of coping that leads to the human being's ability to heal. This essence of healing is enhanced through the professional interventions of health care professionals such as doctors, nurses and other allied personnel. They are, in a way, external causative agents of the healing process that involves not only the physi~al being but also the psychosocial being. There is no doubt that the need for such spiritual care is needed mostly in those areas of care where the individual's existence itself is threatened such as in situations of death and dying.
